COMMENCING THE CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS OF MADRE MARIA THERESA NUZZO
A great day to be remembered. To commemorate the 100th year since the death of the Foundress Madre Maria Theresa Nuzzo in 2023, Theresa Nuzzo School, Marsa had organized a procession and a fun day on 11th May 2022.
We commenced the day with prayers and walked around the school behind the statue of Madre Theresa Nuzzo. Year 6 students, with the help of their teachers and LSEs, prepared prayers and meditated few thoughts that were written by Madre Theresa Nuzzo. The procession was led by 8 young students, dressed as nuns and some as altar boys walked before the statue. Young students waved flags whilst the statue passed in front of them.
All students gathered in the yard to greet the statue carried by four students. Children cheered by throwing confetti and balloons and danced to the band music. Sr. Catherine Seychell (ex-head of school) and Sr. Antonia Bugeja (head of school) gave short talks about Madre Theresa Nuzzo. They both emphasized that one person has made such a difference in many people’s life as she offered her life to serve others. We were honored with the presence of Rev. Fr. Charles Mallia, who also gave a short speech. On this occasion, we launched the new school anthem.
After this function, each class had a planned timetable of fun activities, varying from water games, treasure hunt, football tournaments, indoor games, and crafts. The participation of all the staff, together with the cooperation of all students could be seen the whole day. This is the spirit of our Foundress, that could be felt throughout the day.
Around noon, we gathered in the yard for the ending program. Novices and aspirants who are presently in Malta were invited for this event and they performed a traditional dance. They encouraged students to participate. The day, 11th of May, was specifically chosen as it is the birthday of Madre Theresa Nuzzo. To conclude the day a cake was cut by Sr. Antonia. Children were given a bun and a fruit. We ended the day with a disco party, where all the nuns, teachers and staff present, joined this cheerful dance event.
