CENTENARY YEAR PROGRAM 2022-2023 - MALTA PROVINCE
A Foundress cannot live a life of holiness in secrecy, but her holiness shines forth to the people through the ages. As one would expect from the life of Mother Maria Teresa Nuzzo, her rays of light have lightened the lives of many people, as she was enriched by various virtues. This holy woman has blessed everyone who has enjoyed her good works. Her whole life was blended with a crown of roses and thorns. When the Lord made her to drink from the cup of bitterness, Mother Maria Teresa Nuzzo testified that her power was not coming from anything else but God whom she had earnestly loved.
Mother Maria Teresa Nuzzo spent last four years of her life, in the quiet atmosphere of the Casa Madre at Hamrun. At the beginning of 1923, when our foundress was approaching the 72nd year of her life, although the weight of the years was being felt a lot, she kept doing some work according to her ability. On April 10, she became very week and at the dawn of Tuesday 17 April 1923, the Lord welcomed her, into eternity.
We, her daughters, after a hundred years of her death, still strive to walk on her footsteps and shed this light of Christ not only in Malta but also, spread to many countries: India, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, the Philippines, America, England, and Italy. She was a small seed but by dying she gave birth to many daughters. Filled by the same spirit and love of the Heart of Jesus, we enkindle the lives of children, young people, and families and draw them closer to the Lord through various ministries.
On 23rd April 2022, the Province of Malta began the Centenary year of our Foundress entry into heaven with a Mass at the Parish of Hamrun, the same parish where Mother Maria Teresa founded the Congregation. The province also has planned to have a special mass organised in Zurrieq parish on 28 May and then every month we will have a mass in various Parishes to spread the devotion of our dear Foundress. We have a short video clip prepared by Sr Catherine Seychell about the history of our Congregation and we shall show it in the Parishes where we visit in this order: Zurrieq, Xaghra Gozo, Mellieha, Marsascala, Rabat, Birgu, Marsa, Siggiewi, Fleur de Lys, Zejtun and Dingli.
For our own spiritual renewal, we are organizing three talks in Maltese in May-June. The first talk will be presented by Sr Antonia Bugeja with the theme, the contemplative aspect of our Foundress. The second talk will be presented by Sr Catherine Seychell with the theme, our Foundress’ outlook on suffering and the third one by Sr Mary Anne Sultana with the theme, our Foundress, her apostolate, and spirituality. We shall end the activities of the centenary year by a high Mass presided by our Archbishop on Monday 17 April 2023 where we will invite the lay associates, teachers, students, parents, benefactors, our families, and friends.
