80TH ANNIVERSARY OF PERPETUAL ADORATION IN THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN ZEJTUN
It was the late and holy Monsignor Salv Grima who was then rector of the church who founded the Perpetual Adoration in 1940. Thus, in preparation for this 80th Anniversary, on Monday, July 13, 2020, Archbishop Mons Charles J. Scicluna was invited to preside over. The master of ceremonies, Fr. Michael Bugeja, and two seminarians both from the Parish of Zejtun, Fr. Roderick Baldacchino, and Fr. Jean Claud Schembri, also joined the Archbishop on this special occasion.
Because of covid -19, we had to stick to health directives. Therefore, we were only able to invite a limited number of guests. We felt that the nieces and nephew of Monsignor S. Grima should be invited. It so happened that one of them is Mrs. Miriam Vella, the wife of George Vella, President of Malta. These guests honoured us with their presence. On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, we organized another Mass for some benefactors. The Eucharist was presided over by the Italian Parish Priest, Fr Gino Gauci. Everything was done the day before. We were also honoured by Minister Carmel Abela and his Lady. Mr. Carmel Abela gave us a set of alter cruets, as a gift and on which the date of the occasion is engraved. This Mass was given live on a monitor to all our Province Sisters who wished to attend for this mass. They appreciated it a lot and they really enjoyed themselves.
Finally, our thanks go to all the members of the Zejtun Community and all the Sisters who with their help and presence, this special celebration of the 80th Anniversary was successfully commemorated even during this difficult time.Sr. Candida Sacco
