Our hearts ablaze with the fire of God’s love, blessings in hands and feet on the move…

The 16 th General Chapter of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart, began on 1 st July 2025, with 39 capitulants from Malta, India, Eastern Africa, the Philippines, Dallas and Wales. The first two days of prayer were directed by Fr. Martin Micallef. He enlightened us on how we are “Seeking the living among the dead.” He cautioned us that even tombs can be dressed in religious dress, there will be a temptation to guard this tomb, whereas the scripture invites us for a life of transformation. In his reflection on Discernment, Fr. Martin instructed us that the Spirit of God is accompanying us in our decision making and he is rarely comfortable but always faithful.

The mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated on 3 rd July 2025, by Fr. Mark Sultana at 9.00 am. The sisters from the Province, aspirants, postulants and the second-year novices joined us to invoke the Holy Spirit on the deliberations of the Chapter. Fr. Mark, in his sermon emphasised on the devotion to the pierced Heart of Jesus which our Foundress had and handed on to her daughters in particular the attitude of reparation for our sins and that of the whole world. He also threw light upon some important points from Pope Francis’ encyclical Dilexit Nos. He further enlightened the two main virtues simplicity and humility which are the main attributes of the Heart of Jesus which is also part of our charism. The second-year novices made the eucharistic celebration a meaningful one by their melodious singing. After the mass the gathering dispersed for refreshments.
